Our Accomplishments

The Harvey Alumni Association and Endowment Fund:

  • have established the Alumni Endowment Fund for Harvey High School in 1994. The Endowment Fund now has investment accounts with the Cleveland Foundation which will assure the process of “giving back” to the Harvey community in perpetuity.

  • have established with the Harvey Alumni Endowment Fund

1) the Theodore A. & Barbara H. Beckwith Memorial Scholarship

2) the Colonel Arville L. Hickerson Scholarship,

3) the Dr. William H. & Hazel B. Hickerson Lake Erie College Scholarship. Fund with gifts of $170,000.00 from Colonel Arville L Hickerson, who grew up in Painesville and graduated from Harvey High School in 1952. The scholarship funds are invested with the Cleveland Foundation in order that the scholarships will be given in perpetuity.

  • have established with the Harvey Alumni Endowment Fund, the Hickerson Principal's Breakfast Fund with a donation of $20,000.00 from Colonel Arville L Hickerson.. This catered breakfast is held to recognize those students, and their parents, who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the first three grading periods of the school year. This money is invested with the Cleveland Foundation.

  • have donated $25,461.00 for 2 large display cases in the Harvey Media Center for the display of documents and items relevant to the history of Thomas W. Harvey High School and 1 large display case for the Hall of Fame of Distinguished Graduates expansion in the Harvey cafeteria.

  • have donated $4,900.00 to the Harvey Video Program to convert 16mm films and video-cassettes of athletic events, proms, homecomings, graduation ceremonies, drama events, and music events to DVDs and to post them on YouTube.

  • have Installed a corporate sponsor sign in the Heritage Middle School Gymnasium. Local businesses are encouraged to advertise on it.

  • accept donations from Harvey Alumni to the Harvey Alumni Endowment Fund to establish named scholarships for Harvey grads in a his/her own name or in a friend's or loved one's name. Email harveyalumniassociation@gmail.com for more information.

  • have presented $198,170.21 in scholarships to Harvey seniors going on to higher education. 15 scholarships worth $24,000.00 were given this year - 2023.

  • have donated $10,500.00 to the elementary instrumental music program to help purchase “loaner” instruments for students who cannot afford to purchase or rent their own instruments.

  • have installed the stones that were above the front doors of the original Harvey and the original cornerstone into a brick wall at the front right corner of the new Thomas W. Harvey High School - “As the Opportunity, So the Responsibility”, “Education is the Safeguard of Democracy” and the 1922 cornerstone. The bronze plaques from Harvey “Classic” are on the back side of the wall. Alumni contributed $12,703.50 towards this $13,750.00 project.

  • are currently in the midst of a campaign to sell bricks engraved with the purchaser’s name to be placed in the brick walkway in front of Harvey High School. A 4" X 8" brick engraved with 3 lines costs $50.00 with the brick being place in the Alumni Plaza in front of the new Thomas W. Harvey High School.

  • have a focus project for the next several years of the organization of historical documents in the Ronald C. Balogh Alumni Archives Room at Thomas W. Harvey High School. Donations of historical documents are welcomed as well as volunteers to help the Association organize and catalog documents.

  • has memorabilia from “the past” in the form of color prints of the original Harvey High School and bricks from the original Harvey mounted on wood plaques with an etching of the original Harvey available to alumni. Detailed information is available at www.harveyalumni.com.

  • have donated, along with the Harvey Alumni Endowment Fund, $34,000.00 to Thomas Harvey High School to sponsor the Red Raider Pride Program. The Positive Support Behavior System at Harvey is based on the use of reinforcing school pride, positive behaviors, effort, respect, character, etc. The overall goal of the Pride Program is to increase attendance, increase the graduation rate, and increase school pride. The program culminates each year with a Red Raider Pride Day where students participate in a wide variety of activities and can spend the “Pride Bucks” which they have earned on chances at winning prizes.

  • have established a “Hall of Fame of Distinguished Graduates” which annually honors Harvey Alumni who have made special contributions through their accomplishments that reflect well on Harvey High School and our community

  • have installed The Ronald C. Balogh Brick Walkway in front of Thomas W. Harvey High School where Alumni, family, and friends can purchase engraved bricks and be a part of Harvey's history.

  • Established a mini-grant program to aid teachers/coaches/counselors with special projects for their class.

  • Joined the Eastern Lake County Chamber of Commerce to have a larger presence in the community.

  • Purchased an additional section of bleachers for the band section & named the band section the “Ronald C. Balogh Band Zone.”

  • Secured the Harvey driveway and named it the Ronald C. Balogh Way to honor Ron Balogh.

  • Established a Ronald C. Balogh Memorial with a goal of $25,000

  • Deb Balogh Carpenter established the “Bella & Me Fund through Caring Hearts for Caines to honor Ron Balogh and support animals that need forever homes.
